It can be very difficult for caregivers to understand the mental and physical challenges faced those with Alzheimer’s Disease or dementia, but a new simulation tool aims to change that.

Through the generosity of donors and sponsors, The Forget Me Not Fund was recently able to purchase a Virtual Dementia Tour (VDT) system. This program, created by non-profit Second Wind Dreams, is a tool that can be used to train caregivers, first responders, and other community members about the challenges faced by those living with Alzheimer’s Disease and other forms of Dementia.

Thanks to a combination of patented sensory tools and trained facilitators, the VDT allows users to experience for themselves the physical and mental challenges those with dementia face, and use the experience to provide better person-centered care. The Forget Me Not Fund plans to use the VDT to train those who provide care for those with Alzheimer’s and dementia in Shawano and Oconto Counties.

Learn more about the VDT by watching the video below or find out when we’ll be hosting a training featuring the VDT by checking our calendar of events.
