Forget Me Not Sensory Path at Kuckuk Park

Shawano, WI – On Wednesday, January 26, 2022, members of the Leadership of Shawano County presented a proposal to the City of Shawano Parks and Recreation Council in support of a sensory path to be constructed at Kuckuk Park. The sensory trail will be named after The Forget Me Not Fund, Inc., a local non profit 501 (c)(3) who provides funding to support local Dementia Coalitions, Memory Cafes, education for community awareness, support for caregivers, and education. The Fund is proud to be one of the main financial contributors for the trail in Shawano.  The sensory path will be designed to be enjoyed by those with sensory processing issues, specifically Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, feel safe exploring their senses without feeling overwhelmed by them. Although this trail will be designed specifically for those with Alzheimer’s/Dementia, children and adults who do not suffer from a disability will also benefit, as a sensory trail is a fun, educational tool that allows them to explore and learn about their senses and nature. This project will run parallel with the park’s ADA compliant playground project and will be independent of any other pathways in Kuckuk park. Sponsorships and donor opportunities will be available as of February 1, 2022. These opportunities can be viewed on the Forget Me Not Fund Inc. website at www.forgetmenotfund.org.
