Brown County Dementia Friendly Community Coalition Announces Partnership with Forget Me Not Fund

Green Bay, WI –  The Brown County Dementia Friendly Community Coalition announces a partnership with the Forget Me Not Fund to help support Dementia Friendly efforts in our community after a unanimous vote “yes” by coalition members. The Forget Me Not Fund is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, supporting the Wolf River Dementia Care Network and most recently the Brown County Dementia Friendly Community Coalition.

In Wisconsin alone, there are over 110,000 people living with Alzheimer’s disease. Working with our community at all levels, we understand that almost everyone in our community has been (or will be) affected by Alzheimer’s or a dementia-related diagnosis at some point.

“The Forget Me Not Fund currently raises financial support for local dementia education and awareness in Oconto, Shawano, and Menominee, Stockbridge Munsee Tribal Communities.   We are happy to expand our efforts in Brown County and Oneida Nation partnering with the Brown County Dementia Friendly Coalition to meet the supportive needs of these communities.  Our fundraising events have successfully generated funds where all donation dollars stay local for the much needed projects in our communities.”

The Brown County Dementia Friendly Community Coalition heads up key initiatives in our area in an attempt to make Brown County a better, safer, and more welcoming place to live for people with dementia and their caregivers. Some of these programs include Purple Angel—Dementia Friendly Business Training, Memory Cafes, and other various educational events surrounding dementia in our community.

One Purple Angel Trained business in our area states, “This training has helped our staff facilitate those important conversations by making all of our visitors feel comfortable and valued.”

This partnership will help support the launch of an exciting new initiative called “Dementia Friends,” where community members can learn more about what it may be like to live with dementia and create their own concrete action that will help them become a better “Dementia Friend” to family, friends, neighbors, etc.

The impact of this partnership will allow Brown County Dementia Friendly Efforts to grow and expand, reducing stigma and raising awareness of dementia. The results of these efforts will create a sense of belonging, safety, and support to people with dementia, their family members, caregivers, friends, and more.
